Quentin Tarantino has finally started work on a ‘Django Unchained’ sequel by hiring Jerrod Carmichael to co-write the crossover comic book series.

The sequel is said to see Jamie Foxx’s bounty hunter teaming with the legendary swashbuckler Zorro.

Written by Tarantino, the comic is set several years after the events of ‘Django Unchained’. Django is still a bounty hunter working the western states when he encounters the aged and sophisticated Diego de la Vega soon finds himself fascinated by this unusual character. Django becomes Diego’s bodyguard and joins him on a mission to free the local indigenous people from slavery.

The idea of the follow-up has been bounced around since 2014, Collider has reported that the film is the real deal but whether Carmichael will be writing on his own, with Tarantino or with another is unclear. Whether Tarantino will take the helm is also unknown at this stage.

Released in 2012, ‘Django Unchained’ was set two years before the Civil War, Django (Jamie Foxx), a slave, finds himself accompanying an unorthodox German bounty hunter named Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz) on a mission to capture the vicious Brittle brothers. Their mission successful, Schultz frees Django, and together they hunt the South’s most-wanted criminals. Their travels take them to the infamous plantation of shady Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), where Django’s long-lost wife (Kerry Washington) is still a slave.

The film received numerous awards and nominations, including five nominations at the 85th Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Waltz won several awards for his performance, among them Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards, Golden Globes and BAFTAs. For his screenplay, Tarantino won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA.
